And the winners are...

We both ended up going with the timeless Chanel brand.

Nº5 for R: Aldehydic floral. A bouquet of abstract flowers with an indefinable feminity. Launches with bewitching notes of Ylang-Ylang and Neroli, then unfolds with Grasse Jasmine and May Rose. Sandalwood and Vanilla round out the fabled composition with unforgettable woody notes.

Chance Eau Tendre for N: Both delicate and radiant, with an intoxicatingly light, fruity trail. An unexpected mingling of grapefruit and quince meets the crispness of fresh green notes, while a trace of Jasmine Absolute lingers in the air. Gently warmed by a sheer veil of White Musk, at once, innocent and seductive.

R's 30 Before 30: Become a US Citizen

Yup - that's right, I am now a US citizen, one that is legally recognized by her married name!

It was quite a whirlwind of a process that I'll outline below:
  • Submitted my application (and $600+) around Memorial Day weekend
    • Mind you - there are 30 questions inquiring if you've been a hooker or a prostitute
  • Had to get fingerprints taken on July 12th (mind you the day after AA's wedding weekend - I had the shakes from the lack of champers in my body)
  • Received my notice for an interview on August 18th
    • Was shaking because I was so nervous
    • Was convinced there was a conspiracy to stump me, b/c I'm so awesome - so I overstudied
      • How did I overstudy?  I made flashcards and forced N to ask me thousands of questions over gchat during our work day
    • Passed the test
      • Seriously tho, I had to write a sentence of 3 words "We pay taxes"
        • Yuck, I hate taxes
    • Was told that my marriage certificate looks fake
      • SERIOUSLY!?  How does the ONLY american document in my file look fake?!
    • Finally the guy agreed that my marriage certificate was in fact a real document
    • Scheduled my oath for September 23rd
  • Received on August 22, that my oath would happen on August 26
    • Freaked out because it meant my parents coudn't come
    • Had great friends and MIL and hubby who all made it to my oath
      • Thousands of pictures and LIVE video :)
    • Was amused that NO one spoke English in the oath ceremony
    • My seat neighbors thought I was insane
    • Received a certificate and started the name change process on all my documents
  • Celebrated with wine / cheese / awesome food / great friends
YAY!

Perfume Picks

N's Recommendations for R
  • Dolce & Gabbana The One: The One is a warm, oriental floral, with modern sensuality - a fragrance with a strong personality, and a contrasting golden sweetness. Created for the ultimate diva, The One is at once tempting, modern, and glamorous, embracing a touch of classicism. The top notes radiate a vibrant luminosity, with a sun-touched citrus, while warm fruity notes of luscious lychee and succulent peach add to the delight. The passionate heart evokes an exploding femininity, with an opulent floral soul, creating a distinct, audacious signature. An unexpected hint of plum glows as the base finally blooms with luscious allure into the lasting warmth of vanilla and sweetened ambery-musk notes.
  • Marc Jacobs Lola: This warm floral bouquet conveys the free spirit of today's sexy, modern girl - she is playful, cool, and flirtatious. The long-lasting, day-and-night scent opens with pink peppercorn, pear, and ruby red grapefruit. Blooming midnotes of rose, fuschia peony, and geranium make a feminine statement. Layers of vanilla, warm tonka bean, and creamy musk create a sensous drydown.
  • Gucci by Gucci: Gucci by Gucci is the signature fragrance for the modern day icon— a strong yet sensual woman driven by both her desire for achievement and her unmistakable feminine allure. The new Gucci fragrance falls into the Chypre floral scent family, with a top fruity citrus note and a woodsy base note. The fragrance emerges with an unexpected and exotic blend of guava and pear, bringing with it a uniqueness and modernity. The heart adds a rich, sensual femininity with the Tahitian Tiare flower bringing creaminess to an unconventional bouquet. The bottom consists of musky notes and honey that add sensuality and warmth to the strength of the patchouli.

R's Recommendations for N
  • Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue: A stunning perfume, overwhelming and irresistible like the joy of living. Surprising and colored: the liveliness of Sicilian citron, the happiness of Granny Smith apple, the spontaneity of bluebells. Feminine and resolute: the intensity of jasmine, the freshness of bamboo, the charm of white rose. Deep and true: the character of cedarwood, the fullness of amber, the embrace of musk.
  • Chloé

    Chloé

    :
Capturing the spirit of women, the Chloé vision is not about one singular woman, but rather about the rich and varied personalities of all Chloé women. This fresh, smooth floral fragrance evokes sublime powdery rose. The effect is chic, comfortable, and entirely addictive. Top notes of pink peony, freesia, and lychee embody subtle freshness. At the heart, midnotes of magnolia flower, lily of the valley, and rose rise to sublimated femininity. A base of velvety elegance comes to fruition through cedarwood, amber, and honey.
  • Prada Prada: Prada brings its unique fusion of tradition and innovation to the world of fragrance, reinventing the ancient art of perfumery by creating a fragrance of yesterday and tomorrow, a scent inspired by the past, that embodies the future. It is a fragrance that intertwines memory, reality, and possibility.

Things I Would Tell My 21 Year Old Self

So, a blog that N and I both read from a fellow high school alum had an interesting post last night, which inspired this post from me.

Below, I've broken out advice by main topics that we all worry about at 21.

Topic 1:  Love
Stop focusing on trying to fall in love so much.  Take this time being single to REALLY enjoy living with 3 of your best friends (and 1 person you will stop speaking to, and 1 stinky girl).  Enjoy the freedom this gives you to travel, stay up all night, have pink EVERYTHING.  Life is fun and carefree - enjoy it (and your grades will be better too, if you don't have a random weirdo in your life).

Topic 2:  Trying to Thin Enough
Enough is never enough.  Eat with your friends, for some reason, people don't like eating with others that only eat 1/2 cup of special k cereal.  Not ok.  That random girl is really skinny, but she's an awful person.  At least you're nice :)

Topic 3:  Rushing To Graduate
This is the hardest!  School was hard - sure, but nothing beats have structure and having your parents there to help you with your goals.  Working is not that fun, you really just work for the weekends.

Topic 4:  Sure, your parents are odd - who's aren't?
Hahaha - I would have never believed that I would enjoy (maybe even LOVE) seeing and spending time with my parents.  Sure they have quirks - whose don't?

Topic 5:  Being popular
This one is silly.  Enjoy good friends.  Ones that love you - math jokes and all.  And embrace the nerd in you :)
