Saviors for Fat Days

In the past few years, I've found that my preferences for the way my clothes are cut completely changed.  I used to lean towards loose-fitting pants with relatively more fitted tops.  Now, as my curves keep expanding, I can't live without fitted pants (or leggings) paired with flowy or boxy tops.  The challenge is finding those great bottoms that suck everything in and hold it all in place without creating a muffin top or other unfortunate phenomena.

Enter two of my newest faves, both coincidentally purchased because they were on super sale online and allowed me to get free shipping on the other random things I was ordering.

Hue "Skimmer" Leggings.  I refuse to refer to them as jeggings, but they do look exactly like skinny jeans.  They're comfy, have actual back pockets, and will be great with boots since they don't do that weird baggy thing at the knees like some denim does.  A stealth way to wear leggings without looking like you're wearing leggings.

Note:  I'm uber short, so these are actually the perfect ankle-length on me and not pedal-pushers.

Athleta Quickstep Capri II.  I have the previous version of these, but I assume they're the same.  Ah, the compression.  They feel secure without feeling tight, and they haven't lost their elasticity like some of my Old Navy pants have.  Plus, whoever figured out that adding random seams down the sides will make your legs appear shapely is a genius.  Next time they go on sale, I'm stocking up.

If anyone else has must-haves for fat days, I'm all ears!

R's Top 5 Must Haves for Summer Skin

So, with summer comes baring your legs, arms and minimizing the foundation.  So with that said, I've found some new staples (all under $30) for my summer skin care:

1.  Olive Body Scrub from the Body Shop.  I can't say enough about this product.  I use it once a week on Monday morning, leave it on for a few minutes and then wash it off.  I can feel my skin feel fresh and moisturized without that icky residue.  It is also a very mild scent which I adore.  I will be posting a comparison blog with another scrub.

2.  Schick Quattro Trim Style.  So I used the Venus rake product last year, and this year found this at Target.  It has three different comb lengths and then the option to take the comb off completely - based on your hairstyle ;).  I read that the trimmer lasts up to a couple of years - amazing!  Even if it doesn't, it's quite a steal at $11, and is a trimmer and razor in one!  The Venus rake product was a separate rake and razor, and is pricier than its $11 competitor.

3.  City Block Sheer Sunscreen SPF 25.  This is a steal at $21!  I love this product because not only does it work well as a sunscreen, I use it as a primer as well.  On Saturday/Sunday afternoons where I need some coverage, I will wear the sunscreen (to protect my face) along with some powder, mascara and a hint of bronzer - voila - I look as natural as one can be without a zit showing :)

4.  Nars Orgasm Blush.  This is another must have, regardless of season.  During summer, I especially love the natural glow this product provides with any level of tan.  The product is practically smudge proof - I've worn it on 18 hour travel days, gym sessions - it literally keeps a great glow, but comes off with my makeup remover.

5.  MAC Lip Conditioner:  LOVE LOVE LOVE.  This product is better than Carmex, which is blasphemy!  This product isn't sticky, virtually has no smell and keeps lips moisturized for hours on end...love love love.  go buy this!

Bonus:  MAC Fix+ Spray:  This is great, especially in the summer.  I recommend spraying it when you have minimal eye makeup on.  I do love how it feels, especially on my face on a hot day.  I have been known to put this in the fridge on a hot day :)  I also LOVE having this when I get off of a long plane ride.

There's obviously products that aren't included, but I wanted to keep this affordable and easy to find :)

The Perfume Project

1. R and I take quizzes* online and read descriptions to find 3 potential "signature scents" for ourselves and each other.

2. Each of us, hopefully armed with store-provided coffee beans, sniffs away at the predetermined list of aromas to narrow it down to one.

3. We send each other the names of our personal scent of choice and the scent we each think will best fit the other.

4. Discussion and trips to Nordies will ensue, and we'll score our signature scents! Added bonus: I will cross another item off my "30 Things" list.

Cute as a Button

I love these little buttons and think it'd be so fun to pick some out for each person I know.

I'd choose these for R:

And these for myself:
And we'd both get this one:

Do the Balls of Your Feet Hurt?

Do you like to wear uncomfortable shoes that are too awesome to pass up?

Do you believe heels are necessary regardless of discomfort?

Do the balls of your feet hurt after walking around in high heels?

If so, then I have the product for you! KUSHYFOOT! I just discovered them yesterday (at Nordstrom Rack for $3 / pair). I purchased (and am wearing today) Low Cut Foot Cover. Long story short, they're sheer low cut socks, with extra padding on the balls of your feet! It makes walking around SO comfortable, and I feel like I could walk around in my heels all day without any sort of pain (which is a miracle considering I have on the pointiest shoes EVER).

I highly recommend them

Happy Monday!
